CRC Grower Meetings happening next week

Our annual CRC grower meetings are set for Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in Colusa and Yuba City. The meetings will provide a comprehensive look at the top issues facing our industry. Information presented at both meeting will be the same. 

Morning meeting ( Colusa )

Colusa Casino Resort – Sycamore Room ( in the main casino )

8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Meeting

Afternoon meeting ( Yuba City )

Hillcrest – Plaza Room

12:30 p.m. – Doors open
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Meeting

This year’s scheduled presenters include Taylor Roschen of Kahn, Soares & Conway with a state update. Tyson Redpath with The Russell Group will provide a Washington, D.C. overview and what to expect for the next farm bill. CDFA Undersecretary Christine Birdsong will provide the latest on the CA Small Ag Business Drought Relief Grant Program. David Guy with NCWA will provide the latest water year outlook. Peter Bachman with USA Rice will discuss trade and Biden Administration updates.

Requirement to plant certified or QA seed

A reminder that all rice in California must be planted using certified seed or seed that has gone through a quality assurance program. This requirement is in place to reduce the spread of weedy rice (red rice) through the planting of contaminated seed, one of the major vectors for the pest. CCIA certifies seed for owned varieties and provides quality assurance programs for off patent varieties.
