Starting Soon: Rice Water Quality Monitoring

Thiobencarb Monitoring

Thiobencarb monitoring starts April 26 and ends June 28, 14 times at the four core sites. We base the monitoring on planting dates and timing of thiobencarb applications from the county agricultural commissioner offices sharing dates on the notices of intent. Some rice has been planted and treated, which will be captured with the current monitoring plan.

Rice WDR Surface Water Monitoring

Monitoring for halosulfuron-methyl (Sandea and Butte) and triclopyr TEA (Grandstand) will start on May 3 and end June 21, four times at the four core sites.

Pyrethroid TMDL

Monitoring for lambda-cyhalothrin (Warrior, Lambda-cy, Silencer, etc.) will start May 3 and end June 22, five times at the four core sites.

Rice WDR Ground Water Monitoring

Monitoring for ground water constituents will take place August 8 to 12, at the ten monitoring well locations.

All surface water monitoring is Tuesdays and Thursdays because the Rice WDR is on a core monitoring year, two pesticides at four sites.

Here’s a link to the thiobencarb water hold table with information on other pesticides.

Drinking Water Well Testing

Drinking Water Well Testing

Reminder for each Grower to complete the required testing

The California Rice Commission’s Waste Discharge Requirement (WDR) requires, beginning in 2022, each grower (or landowner) to conduct annual testing for nitrates in all drinking water supply wells present on parcels where rice is produced. The results are reported from the analytical laboratory to the State’s GeoTracker database.
