Water Recirculation Workshop for Delta Rice Growers

Water Recirculation Workshop for Delta Rice Growers

A specialized workshop for Delta rice growers aimed at demonstrating a new water recirculation tool is set for later this month. According to those behind the new project, the pumps help reduce water and energy use.

Organizations presenting during the workshop include:  Fish Friendly Farming, Conservation Farms and Ranches, The Nature Conservancy on their Bird Returns Program and the UCCE’s Delta Crops Resource Management Advisor.

Funding for this new program is through the Fish Friendly Farming Program, Delta Conservancy and State Water Resources Control Board. Information on funding sources for interested growers will be provided.

The workshop is set for Wednesday, August 23 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and will be held at Staten Island, 23319 N Staten Island Rd, Thornton. Additional workshop details including parking information and a map can be viewed here.

Please RSVP to connorb@fishfriendlyfarming.org. For additional information please contact Laurel Marcus at laurelm@fishfriendlyfarming.org or (707) 869-2760.

Drinking Water Well Testing

Drinking Water Well Testing

Complete the required annual testing for 2023

The California Rice Commission’s Waste Discharge Requirement (WDR) requires, beginning in 2022, each grower (or landowner) to conduct annual testing for nitrates in all drinking water supply wells present on parcels where rice is produced. The results are reported from the analytical laboratory to the State’s GeoTracker database.
