Application Deadline Fast Approaching for Bid4Birds

The California Ricelands Waterbird Foundation, in collaboration with our partners at BirdReturns and California Department of Fish & Wildlife, is currently soliciting applications for the Bid4Birds habitat program this late summer and fall. Applications are submitted through the Bid4Birds website and the application period closes on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at noon.

Fall Program Key Details:

  • Application Period: June 5 to 26, 2024
  • Approximate level of funding: $275,000
  • Payment rates vary and are generated by the grower, based on their individual costs of providing the habitat.

Habitat Details:

  • Time period: July 22 to September 30, 2024
  • Duration: maintain flooding for 3-week contract period
  • Flooding: maximum of 4 inches throughout contract period
  • Field preparations required (little to no standing vegetation)
  • Contracts are ranked on timing, habitat quality, and price

The Migratory Bird Conservation Partnership (Audubon California, The Nature Conservancy, and Point Blue Conservation Science), in collaboration with the California Rice Commission and the Delta Conservancy, and with funding from the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, is now accepting online bids for the BirdReturns-Late Summer Farmlands Habitat Program. Applications Now Open for Fall Bid4Birds

The California Ricelands Waterbird Foundation (Foundation) is happy to announce a collaboration between Bid4Birds and BirdReturns. We will work together, with funding from the Foundation, the California Dept of Fish & Wildlife and potentially the CA Dept of Water Resources, to incentivize habitat for early migrating waterbirds this late summer and early fall.

Application Deadline Approaching for New Waterbird Habitat Program

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in California is taking applications for the Migratory Bird Resurgence Initiative (MBRI). California has $500,000 available. Please call or visit your local NRCS office to apply.  Due to the current compressed planting season, we have confirmed with NRCS that for most counties you can register your interest in the opportunity with just a phone call by May 24, but then you will still need to sign your application in person by May 31. For producers in Butte County, you need to sign your application in person by May 24.
