UC Davis Contract Inked to Write the Rice Footprint Report

UC Davis Contract Inked to Write the Rice Footprint Report

After months of work, the contract with UC Davis to complete the Rice Footprint report – minimum number of acres to support our communities and preserve and enhance our habitat benefits – has been completed.

The multidisciplinary effort will include work by Bruce Linquist, John Eadie, Andrew Ryple, Dan Sumner and Brian Todd. The report will look at the contributions of planted rice acres to our rural economies, fish, waterfowl and reptiles. Then the report will roll up these benefits and provide a sense of scope – how many acres and where we should be focusing supportive policy and programs.

The report is expected in the Fall of 2024.

To participate in this program, vegetation on rice levees and roads must be left from the previous growing season. Enrolled areas must be left undisturbed until July 15th.
