New Fish Food Program Applications Open Now

Reclamation District 108 (RD108) and California Trout are soliciting applications for the Fish Food Program, which pays rice farmers and wetland managers to flood their fields for a few weeks and drain the water (full of food) to fish-bearing waterways to benefit out migrating salmon while providing wintering and migratory bird habitat. Landowners do not have to be in RD 108 to apply.

Application deadline is September 10, 2023.

Ricelands Salmon Project Update & TV News Story

It has been about six weeks since we concluded our fieldwork and drained our Ricelands Salmon Project field. Our primary objective was to practice the draft salmon management practice on a full-sized rice field and assess the extent to which natural-origin or “wild” salmon used the 125-acre Sutter Bypass rice field after the floodwaters had receded.  A special shout-out goes to Steve Neader for the use of his fields and his continued willingness to devote his time and energy into helping to us to test-out the draft management practice.

RCPP Final Application Reminder

RCPP Final Application Reminder

The application deadline for practices through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) is fast approaching. To be eligible for participating in any practices this spring or fall, producers must sign up by May 1, 2023. Applications must be submitted through Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offices. Below is a summary of the practices that are currently open for enrollment.
