The California Rice Commission, UC Davis and the UC Cooperative Extension are hosting the 2024 Rice Quality Workshop on July 18th from 9:00 AM to 12:30PM. The event will be held at Granzella’s Banquet Hall located at 457 7th St., Williams, CA. The registration fee is $50/person and includes all instruction, a copy of the Rice Quality Handbook, coffee and lunch. Registration is limited to the first 100 participants. Industry experts will speak on various topics relating to key aspects of California rice quality.

Longtime industry leader Lorenzo Pope passed on March 25, 2024. Dr. Pope was known as a plant breeder and executive at Rice Researchers. He served for decades on the California Rice Commission Board of Directors and many of its committees, including the Rice Promotion Board. In 2015, the California Rice Research Board presented Dr. Pope with the California Rice Industry Award. Ever an educator to others and always willing to take a phone call, lend a hand or attend any rice meeting, Lorenzo will be remembered as a giant in our industry.

Bringing nine years of experience working with Northern California RCD’s, Adria Arko joins the CRC as its first Grant Manager. Most recently, she served as the Director of Development for the San Mateo RCD and prior to that, Senior Program Manager. She has secured numerous grants with both USDA and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. As many are aware, the work of resource conservation districts is funded through grants.
